Thyme for Dinner
Cook a meal for families in times of crisis.
After a long day at their loved one’s bedside, many guests at the Mark Preece Family House simply don’t have the time, energy, or means to shop for and prepare a nourishing meal. That’s where you can come in; offering not just food, but a moment of relief, care, and comfort when it’s needed most.
Our volunteer-supported meal program, Thyme for Dinner, gives individuals, families, community groups, and businesses the chance to come together and prepare a warm, home-cooked meal for the families staying at the House.
How It Works
- Gather a Group: Bring together friends, family, co-workers, or teammates. It’s a great relationship or team-building opportunity while also giving back.
- Book Your Date: Choose a date that works for your group and contact our Family Service staff to reserve it in our calendar:
• Phone: 905-529-0770
• Email: familyservice@markpreecehouse.ca - Plan and Prepare: Your group will plan the menu, purchase the ingredients, and cook the meal in our on-site, fully-equipped kitchen.
• Plan your meal for 30–35 people (you are not required to accommodate dietary restrictions).
• Dinner should be ready to serve between 6-7pm. Be sure to arrive early enough to allow sufficient time for prep and cooking.
• Kindly note: the cost of groceries is covered by your group.
Not sure what to cook? Here are some ideas that always work for a crowd:
- Pasta and a salad (lasagna, spaghetti, etc.)
- Casseroles and a salad (Shepherd’s pie, Chicken casserole, Mexican casserole)
- BBQ dinners
- Soups and Sandwiches
- Stews
- Meatloaf
In the form below, please provide us with your name, organization, email address, preferred dates, and a proposed menu.
One of our staff will reach out to you to confirm the details.
